Statewide Soil Survey and Ecological Site Description (ESDs) maps are currently available, but the underlying data layers are not compiled and updated as a statewide package which has led to variability in versions of the data and difficulty in accessibility and consistency. Development of an agreement for updated statewide soil and Ecological Site Descriptions in digital map format (Energy Atlas) will help energy companies, regulating and non-regulating governmental agencies, agricultural producers, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions and stakeholders rely on a single, credible and updated source of data for conservation planning activities related to the energy industry.
A single, user-friendly source of soil and plant community information in digital map format that can be relied upon for conservation planning activities associated with energy planning, development, reclamation and impact mitigation will be achieved by constructing the Wyoming Energy Atlas. Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) will be developed between Wyoming Department of Agriculture (WDA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for packaged and updated soil and ESD data transfers.
