Natural gas is a domestic resource, produced in abundance throughout the U.S., and especially Wyoming. In November 2011, Governor Mead signed a memorandum of understanding with other states dedicating state fleets’ to natural gas vehicles (NGVs). This reduces fuel costs, saving taxpayer money, and utilizes a resource from which jobs are created in Wyoming. Any public procurement office is available to participate, making this opportunity available to cities, counties, school districts and others. This aggregated demand will provide additional incentives for auto manufacturers to develop NGVs for use by private business and individuals, and for others in the private sector to develop the fueling infrastructure needed to support them.
Provide a regulatory environment that promotes the use of NGVs; provide sufficient demand to see increased penetration of their use; development of natural gas fueling infrastructure throughout the state; and ultimately, make NGVs an affordable option for private individuals.
