This initiative began as the Career Readiness Certificate program of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services that offered a portable credential indicating a specific level of employability. The program validates the skill level of the available workforce for existing and new industries by testing students or workers in the areas of Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information. By looking for applicants who possess a certificate, employers may to find employees with the right skill level for the job, reducing turnover and lost production time, while increasing worker efficiency and morale. Certificate testing is now administered by community colleges that use the skills assessment test for Hathaway Scholarship eligibility and to assess a student’s prerequisite skills for a difficult course of study or training program. Although the Department of Workforce Services no longer administers the State Certificate program, job seekers may complete the tests at a community college to earn a National Career Readiness Certification.
A career and skills readiness program of equal benefit to employers, job applicants and students resulting in a skilled workforce for high wage energy industry jobs.
